2011 Lighthouse Challenge of NJ

The New Jersey Lighthouses and selected museums hosted the “Lighthouse Challenge of New Jersey” weekend on October 15 & 16, 2011.Visitors enjoyed the opportunity to tour the state and visit each lighthouse over the weekend, and help raise funds for continued lighthouse preservation.  Tinicum Rear Range Lighthouse welcomed over 870 visitors from 19 states to our unique lighthouse.

These majestic beacons have played an important role in New Jersey's history, guarding mariners and protecting our coasts for over a century. Lighthouses serve as a reminder of American ingenuity while honoring the values of safety and heroism. Visiting the lighthouses and museums on the Challenge gave the visitors an opportunity to step back in time and learn more about our state and country's history.

10th Annual NEW JERSEY LIGHTHOUSE CHALLENGE at Tinicum Rear Range Lighthouse October 17 & 18, 2009

The tenth annual New Jersey Lighthouse Challenge was held on October 17 & 18 in chilly, wet and windy weather.  In spite of the dampness we hosted over 1,500 enthusiastic challenge participants.  Participants came from many states in the US and even some from Canada and Great Britain!  Sales of Tinicum Lighthouse merchandise was slower than usual but was still encouraging as well as the overall donations.  We were one of the lighthouses chosen to be open for nighttime climbing on Saturday night based on the spectacular view afforded to those willing to climb.  We heard over and over again that Tinicum Lighthouse was the best or one of the best views on the entire “Challenge” circuit.  Many of those making the climb stated that they never expected the view to be as good as it was.  It was very gratifying to hear so many good comments.  Of course we have known it all along.

US LIGHTHOUSE SOCIETY GROUP VISITS TINICUM
TUESDAY, MAY 13, 2008

The US Lighthouse Society began their week long tour of New Jersey, Delaware Bay, and New York Harbor lighthouses with Tinicum being their first stop.  The group of about 40 from all over the country arrived at Tinicum Rear Range Lighthouse early Tuesday morning, May 13, 2008.  The group was met by members of the Tinicum Rear Range Lighthouse Society who provided refreshments and conducted tours of the historic lighthouse.  Most members of the group made the climb to the top of the lighthouse and enjoyed the spectacular view of the Philadelphia skyline and Delaware River.  Many on the tour remarked how surprised they were at the view and were very glad that Tinicum was one of the lighthouses on the tour.  TRRLHS President Marc Kamp and other board members took the opportunity to greet the tour group at their arrival dinner Monday evening in Philadelphia.
